Equipment
- 1 Small Bowl
- 1 Grill or Large Frying Pan
Ingredients
- 2 slices White or Wholemeal Bread
- 2 teaspoons Unsalted Butter softened, but not melted
- 1 tablespoon Granulated Sugar
- ½ teaspoon Ground Cinnamon optional, but very tasty!
Instructions
- Mix your magic sugar
- In a small bowl, stir the sugar and cinnamon together.
- Butter the bread
- Use your butter knife to spread the softened butter all over one side of each slice of bread. Be generous—butter is what makes it golden and crisp.
- Sprinkle the sweetness
- Sprinkle the cinnamon sugar all over the buttered sides. Try to spread it to the corners for full flavour in every bite.
- Grill until golden
- Place the slices (sugar side up) under a medium grill for 2–3 minutes, until the sugar bubbles and the edges go golden brown.
- OR place the slices sugar-side down in a warm frying pan and toast for 1–2 minutes, then flip and lightly toast the plain side.
- Cool slightly, then slice
- Let the toast cool for a minute (the sugar will be very hot and sticky), then slice each slice into 3 or 4 fingers. Perfect for dipping, sharing, or nibbling.
Notes
📝 Little Chef’s Tip: You can use brown sugar for a richer flavour or try adding a pinch of nutmeg or a drop of vanilla essence to the sugar mix. Serve with warm milk or a fruity tea.
Story Snippet:
"This was the very first thing I ever made all by myself. I remember standing on a chair in the kitchen, buttering bread with full concentration. It made the house smell like warm hugs and Sunday mornings."
